Interactive experience
Teye [ taɪ ] is a voice-controlled phone that removes the inhibition to interact with the device thanks to its easy-to-love design. It has been conceived as a part of the research lab Thinx aiming to experiment with unorthodox communication models on a physical device avoiding screen interactions.
Made with and for Denkwerk.
Completed in 2015
INTERACTION MODEL
Teye utilises extremely simple yet expressive Kauai signs emoticons as its core interaction model. Possible reactions and feedback have been reduced to five clearly distinctive states in order to signify the emotional reactions of the phone.
CUTE IS NEW SMART
Despite its cute and simple looks, Teye has a pretty much advanced technology inside. It uses motion detection to start, a voice recognition system to identify the right emotions and the mood of speakers, powerful sound system and is able to work autonomously for several hours.
Teye is not concept device, it is a physical object that has been constructed during the project. So any picture is real as it only can be. For example, only for animating its rotation, there has been made 72 separate frames that were individually retouched for the website, and a detailed explosion scheme shows technologies behind Teye.
TWO OF THEM
The first Teye appeared to be so awesome, so why not building the second one? Two devices are placed in Berlin and Cologne offices mo make the communication between colleagues even more emotional.
SIZE MATTERS
At a certain moment of the design process, it papers to be clear that, with all its necessity, the mobile version will not be able to cover all that richness allowed by desktop websites. Tablet and mobile versions were approached with intentions to make excessive desktop contents accessible to the extend that it would remain informative and emotional enough.
Teye is an open, transparent and global invitation into the process of shared co-creation for thinkers and tinkerers, designers and developers — the talents the whole world needs. Going open source and publishing Teye’s blueprints, technical specifications as well as code, created an unstoppable wave of reactions from creative enthusiasts that made their own Teye happen.
The project resulted not only in an exiting design process that brought to creation of the functioning physical device but also in tremendous attention to the agency and overwhelming feedback from both designers and developers communities, of course, not mentioning several of awards and publications.
COLLATERIAL
Concept, Interaction Experience, Visual Design, Illustration
RECOGNITION
FWA, Awwwards, IF Awards, Lovie Awards, Red Dot, PAGE, London International Awards, Golden Awards of Montreux, Deutscher Digital Award, Cresta, Annual Multimedia.
